    Hello.
New to Jellyfin, moving from Kodi/XBMC after ~20 years...

My library is read-only for Jellyfin, I do not wish to give it write access to my video archive.
I setup English and Hebrew for the subtitles, also configured "Only download subtitles that are a perfect match for video files" and made sure "Save subtitles into media folders" is unchecked as I can't save anything to the media folder.

I have a few issues with this:

    1. Why do I need to download everything in advance? even with the vip subscription I am limited to 1000 downloads/day, a quick math shows that it will take me weeks to download everything, this is really inefficient, isn't there a way to download on demand? similar to Kodi?
    2. How can I use the subtitles? I've checked a few videos that had their srt files downloaded (I checked the logfile) and I don't see any extra subtitle for that video.

    Thanks.

After you've added subs you'd need to scan the library to add them to Jellyfin.

There is currently very little you can do about the opensubtitle behavior. But I'm not sure if on-demand subtitles would work with how jellyfin works. Since, like I mentioned above, Jellyfin relies on the subtitle files be scanned in before they become available on clients.

    Thanks, understood.
Is there another integration that can do on-demand subtitles downloading?

I've never used this app, but Bazarr is supposed to make subtitle management a lot easier.

Bazarr is a little confusing, but I can confirm that it absolutely makes managing/retrieving subtitles a breeze.
