Hello. New Jellyfin user here - previously a Plex user (argh, don't get me started...)

I've installed Jellyfin on a Windows 11 machine, created a profile and setup some library folders for my local media. In the UI I can see a whole bunch of shows and films added that are not in my local folders; I'm sure I have not concentrated on the settings when I went through the wizard, but how can I exclude such media? I *only* want my local media in the library. Can you advise me on the correct setting and do I need to remove the ones that have been added already? Is there a quick way to do this?

    Many thanks

Jellyfin only shows media that you have configured in your libraries, so you will need to be more specific as to what you are seeing

When you try to play something that's not in your library, is it the actual item it was identified as, or is it misidentified and actually media that's already in your library?

Sure. In the attached screenshot, only the folder with the big green arrow is mine; everything else has been added by Jellyfin

Ah, it would seem that it is misidentified - can you tell me what to change for metadata source?

    Thanks

Argh... just looking at other threads: is it the case that my files need to be named according to a specific format for Jellyfin to catalogue them? This is one of the things I hated about Plex....

This is how my media is organised:

As long as each "letter" folder is added as a library root that should be ok most of the time. But nesting show/movie folders is not supported, in general.

    Code:
    chris@rat-trap:/media/library/Anime$ tree Gunsmith\ Cats/
    Gunsmith Cats/
    └── Season 01
        ├── s01e01.mkv
        ├── s01e02.mkv
        └── s01e03.mkv

    "Anime" is the library root.
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1

    OK thanks.

I'm not inclined to rename all my media - will probably stick to using Kodi on the TV.

    Thanks
