Only transcoded media will play

Hello everyone,

as expected in this forum, I am having problems with my jellyfin server.

Installation method: Via repository and apt
OS: ZorinOS 16 (also tried 17, which are basically Ubuntu) Virtual Machine on Proxmox (also tried 17, which are basically Ubuntu)
It has 4 cores (from a 2400G) and 8GB RAM
Server-Version: 10.8.13 (also tried the newest available one, just reverted to a backup I made before upgrading)
GPU: passed through a GTX1060 6GB (Nvidia-smi also shows that transcoding is happening with working movies)
Storage: TrueNAS VM running on the same server, which is connected via nfs to the jellyfin vm
Clients I am using: Jellyfin Player app on a FireTV Cube, Jellyfin media player (Linux) and I am also trying it via the browser

Problem:
Some movies will play without problem, transcode fine and just work on all my clients.
Then I have some movies and shows, that just won't work at all. These just keep "loading" and the circle keeps spinning and nothing happens else (even left it for 60 minutes trying to load on another occasion).
I've looked at the logs (there are no ffmpeg logs, since these won't even start transcoding) and can't see anything wrong there.

I noticed that it only affects "Direct Play" available media. I use the latest Firefox and also just tried Chromium. As soon as it has to transcode the media, it works as intended and I can watch the movie/show without problems.

I'm gonna edit the title to more appropriately describe my problem, since it seems to only affect "Direct Play"-able media.

Not sure what is going on. It should be direct streaming at most (only audio transcoded). But it wants to transcode both video and audio. hmmmm

So, I now also remembered that there is the possibility of looking at the browser console.
After I click the media that I want to play, I keep getting these two error messages in Firefox/Chromium

For everyone finding this and wondering if I ever solved my problem: Yes, I finally did and it is of course user error.

Jellyfin didn't have 'write (and execute)' permissions on my TrueNAS folders. Changed that and now everything works just as expected. Only thing that still confuses me, is that it never said that there were any permissions missing anywhere, but well. It works now!
