I wonder if its even possible to make a playlist with movies or tv episodes. I am a bit unsure where to start with this.
I tried using M3U. Does it even support adding video-files?

I quickly added a few paths video files. Jellyfin did see the playlist, but the paths itself were not recognized. So it might be the path is not correct.
Does it have to go straight to a specific file, or does it recognize files within a folder?

I am running Jellyfin on a QNAP. I am not even sure how a path should look like in this context.

Jellyfin can make playlists within the UI. For each movie or episode, or even an entire show, click on the "..." context menu and "Add to playlist". You can then add to an existing playlist or start a new one.

But Jellyfin does support M3U playlists. The M3U playlist must be located within a folder that is part of a library and the path in the M3U must be either a relative path (from the M3U's location) to the piece of media or an absolute path. When using docker, the absolute path must be the path from within the container's reference frame.

I have a playlist that i can't seem to migrate across from plex. its got like 1600 items in it. recreating this by hand would be a huge pain. Is there a way in the browser to select multiple files at a time so they can be added to a playlist? I've tried long-pressing in mobile on android on files, and it looks like the file gets selected, but then i can't tell how to add them to a playlist from there.

Depending on what view you are in, sometimes the multi-select menu isn't present.  AFAICT, when you drill down into a music album you cannot initiate a multi-select for the songs in that album.  But other places you should be able to long press and get the multi-select menu where you can add multiple items to a menu.

So in my case i need it 100% for video files, and not music, and seemingly no matter what i try, i can't figure out how to get it to let me select multiple files.

another really useful thing would be the ability to take search results and add those to a playlist. For example if i want to add an entire show, or an entire season of a show to a playlist, it would make very quick work of that operation

Long press in Android, the interface should change a bit and allow you to multi-select. In the top right is a "..." context menu which will have the "add to playlist" option.

ah ha, okay, then i've found a bug. If I'm viewing a library, and the view is set to 'list' long pressing an item kinda 'highlights' it, but i get no added user context. if i press another item, the first one becomes unselected and the one i freshly pressed is opened.

if i change the view to 'disc' or 'thumbs' or 'logo' or anything OTHER than 'list', it works.

I should add, for anyone else that finds this thread - that you can long press in the desktop/web interface too. It's kinda weird having to long press with a trackpad, but it totally works, and you can then select stuff to add en-masse to a playlist.

but same as on mobile, this doesnt work in the list view. any other view other than list will work
