So, this is kind of a rare problem, but an annoying one. And i know not *directly* Jellyfin related (apologies).

Ive been using Rename my TV Series 2 program to bulk rename to proper formatting episodes of tv shows. But ive noticed every so often, the list it gives me, doesnt match the list its supposedly pulling from theTVDB.com.

For example, im working on backing up ST:TNG. Both the "Aired" and "DVD" order both have 'Encounter at Farpoint" as 2 separate episodes (Aired being episodes 1 & 2, DVD being 00-part 1 & 2). However the Blu-ray set i got, has it as a single episode, as does the listing on theTVDB.

I know this program hasnt had an update in years, and unsure if there is a better 'light weight' program just to rename these. I know there are "database manager" programs that will manage it and rename the files, but that isnt really what im wanting as i was to use Jellyfin to view the content, not the manager (i also dont want it connecting online to torrent sites).

If all else fails, i know i can just manually rename the file, but i was hoping to find a fix for it so i wouldnt have to worry about it. (couldnt find anyway to update what the program itself is pulling from, but the page link it has for the show links to the correct site so i dont understand why its pulling the wrong information about what the episode is).

You'd use our multiple episode syntax for this situation.

    https://jellyfin.org/docs/general/server/media/shows/

    Name it like this.

    Code:
    S01E01-E02.mkv

And it would show up like this.

    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage
4x WD Red Pro 6TB CMR in RAIDZ1

Problem with that setup is it still numbers them as two. When on the Blu-ray the two-parter series premiers and finales are listed as one and filed (put on the disk as one movie file) as single longer episodes. I just ended up manually naming them with their listed episodes.

The point of numbering files in this way is to ensure Jellyfin retrieves the correct metadata from TMDB/TVDB so you don't have to manually enter metadata.

It doesn't matter whether it is one file on the disc or not. What matters is how it was originally aired and what TMDB/TVDB says. If it was aired as two episodes, it's two episodes regardless if it is a single file or not.

In my example, the Seinfeld series finale was two episodes when it originally aired but my DVD had it as a single large file. Doesn't change that it aired as two episodes and I named it as such to match TMDB to ensure it retrieved metadata.
