The last part you mention seeing a server but not being able to access it. Did you try from an incognito window? Or clearing your browser cache?

No but the server itself just isn't running properly. I can't connect through my DNS from an other method so it's not just a chrome browser issue. It's not actually running properly. Just fails.

I still can't figure out why I don't have required permissions. I get this stupid dual user same name at windows start-up now (again) with no explination of why or how to resolve it. And still no ability to get JF running as a service and access network locations. At this point I feel like just blowing up windows to try and start fresh, which is a royal pain. Silly me for thinking I had figured out the fix and attempting it.

Side note while I am working through all this other... stuff... s there an action or plugin that would scrape the libraies and clear up image cache to remove unused entries? Or could I just kill the cache folder and then re-scan the libraries to re-populate?I have a feeling my cache has ballooned massively with bloat.

The cache folder is regularly purged. There is a scheduled task for that.

The METADATA folder on the other hand does have some cleanup issues that should be resolved in 10.11. That folder can accumulated orphaned files if there is too much churn.

This is not how I planned to spend my Friday. Here is where I am at.

Did a fresh Windows 10 install. Why? Because issues. So that took it's sweet time.

Caught up to installing JF 10.10.7 directly doanloaded from the site. I run the installer as admin, select to install as service and to use the Network Service. This instalation works. JF service begins running after install. But there is not Start Menu entry for the JF tray and no tray appears in the task bar. So the only way I can see JF is running is through Windows Service and the only way to access the running server is having Chrome remember the LocalHost URL.

So I get into a brand new JF server and for testing get right to addding a source, add a Movies library and enter the network share for the folder and.... cannot find the network folder.

Tried for a number of folders and for TV shows as well. Nothing.

Then tried copying the backup JF ProgramData from my previous iteration. JF did start but wouldn't load to the local host or even the direct IP. Then it seemed to stop running.

So it's nearly 5am and I have no working JF server and my eyes hurt and I'm going to bed. And still having the stupid Windows issue of this computer not showing on the network despite doing all the tricks I've found to get it to. It is accessibly by typing in the address location but it doesn't show up by default in the network section of explorer.

And I have no more easter chocolate to eat either.

Still can't figure out why there is no start menu entry or system tray icon?

Seems the network issue has to do with Windows Credentials as I recently had to change my MS password. I log into each PC with the same MS account and new password however while using the 2 network drive shares PCs on the network they are only accessible by entering the old MS password for the credentials. This seems to create an issue for JF but so far I haven't found any information on how to fix this at either end.

And then still having issues trying to ge JF to work as a brand new server let alone attempt to re-establish my backed-up server.

OK tried everything I can think of or find regarding Credentials and found I could disable them on the network share devices, which works in Explorer but JF still can't find the path. So that's still the point I'm stuck at with no understanding, other than if the credentials don't match, how to resolve.

Still no JF start menu entry or tray icon with a new fresh install as the previous one started failing. So can't access JF through those, only the Services menu.

Installed as regular user this time and the install "failed" to start the server and prompted me to cancel but then the service was running so that's more confusion.

    Love JF. Hate JF setup.

Tinkered a bit, can't even add a share folder from a network location where the Windows Credentials are actually the same. So now no idea how to possibly resole that. JF (as a service) doesn't want to see my shared folders at all. It does, however, see shared network folders from the host PC. Not direct folder paths, the same shares other users onthe network would access. So it's just 3 shared folders on 2 network devices (Movies, TV Shows, AEW) that JF can't access.

OMFG @TheDreadPirate You come through again and this time you didn't even know it!

Refering to this post in this thread that came up from Google but I couldn't find before.

I had to access the JF service in Services and change the user away from Local /Network to my actual user name with the proper MS password and then re-start the service and BAM JF can see those network shared folders now.

Still don't understand why there is no start menu or system tray abilities?

And hoping to swap in the back-up of my once working server instead of starting over from scratch (for the umpteenth time) then getting Caddy working again to be back to regular scheduled programing. And need to get out to vote as well!

I can't even get JF to install and start manually and access the server I had built now. It just fails. The Program Data folder is all still there but nope, nada. If I use the old Program Files folder even with a new install then JF just doesn't start.

So now I'm not even certain what to do to try and get back running like I was a few hours ago, despite having back-ups and all that. And still no idea why when I thought I had things fixed it was still a failure since how do I have permissions yet don't? Very confused.

If you type in "services.msc" in the start menu, that will bring up the service manager.  If you setup Jellyfin as a service, it would be listed here.

Ah yes but you didn't specify changing the user within the service to my main user for Windows login, at least not in that post. But it's ok you did elsewhere and I found it and now I'm almost back to running proper. But still no tray icon!
