Just got a BenQ projector with an AndroidTV stick included.
I installed Jellyfin for Android TV from the play store.
When I go to add a server, no keyboard shows up.
I have no other keyboard set up.
I tried several other keyboards from the play store without success.
Other AndroidTV apps work fine and show the onscreen keyboard.
All my apps are up to date.

    Thanks for any advice.

    Edit:

    FIXED IT:

I went into jellyfin permissions, and noticed that it did not have permissions for microphone (or files/folders).
Giving it permissions fixed the keyboard issue.
I guess not having microphone permissions was preventing GBoard from coming up.
    So glad it works now!

Have you tried restarting the Android TV device? I had the same issue with my TV that has Android TV. The on-screen keyboard didn't appear until I restarted the TV.

Also, if all else fails, Android TV allows for external keyboard and mouse devices being connected and used with it. So you could get a cheap USB keyboard to use as an input device. Does the Android TV device even have USB inputs?

    Thanks.
    I tried restarting.
I can't use an external keyboard...I plugged one into the projector, but it didn't work.

    Thanks

Did you try the BenQ Smart Control app? It looks like it has a virtual keyboard. Reviews don't look so good but worth a try. It should be available for both Android and Apple.

Are you sure you have restarted properly?
Switching the device off and on again does not necessarily restart it.
Each Android version is different, and the process might also vary from manufacturer to manufacturer but you might want to take this video as a rough guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOWYjpVv_d4

I tried this, but it did not work.

I went under device preferences and did "restart."
I'll take a look at the video.
It's so frustrating not having a keyboard.

Two thing to try. I had to actually had to tell someone this today so don't take any offense.

    1. After you click on "Enter service address" and you get the white input box to enter the server address. Did you click on ok, enter, or select on your remote to bring up the keyboard?

    2. Power cycle the projector with the keyboard attached.

Thanks for the tips. I actually got an external keyboard to work by doing exactly what you said in number two. And I was able to enter the server address this way. But now, I still can't use the on-screen keyboard to search for movies or anything. The projectors actually ceiling mounted now, so using an external keyboard is pretty unwieldy. So I'd like to get the on-screen keyboard working, if I can. Thanks for your help.

    What I  would do

    1. Check for any updates on the Android stick and apply.
    2. Delete the AndroidTV app and reinstall.
    3. Try out the 0.17 beta
    3. Buy a cheap wireless keyboard to use.
    4. Fill out a bug report and hope it will eventually be fixed.

    Figured it out!

The Jellyfin app permissions were never set correctly - and it never asked for them.
I gave it microphone permission (and files and folders, while I was there), and now it works.
I guess not having mic access was preventing GBoard from launching.
    So glad it finally works.
Thanks for the tips and help.
