SOLVED: Fixed for now.. tried again not sure what is different this time but it's working.

I've set up jellyfin to see how it compares to my emby. However I cannot get the remote access to work - just doesn't load. Local is fine.

Certs, firewall rules, port forwarding all follow same logic (ports being different) as my emby config.
The networking config in jellyfin is a little confusing but I've set it up to be as close to my emby config as I can (I think)?

Https port is same for external and internal, router forwards same port to same port.

Connection is via a ddns. It definitely works as I've got my {apps we don't talk about - TDP} and emby using it.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks!

Are you using a reverse proxy or are you using Jellyfin's internal https function? Jellyfin is picky about the kind of cert used.

Did you enable remote connections in Jellyfin? And can you share your jellyfin logs via privatebin.net? How is Jellyfin installed?

    Thanks for the reply.
I uninstalled it in a fit of rage tbh - I'll get it installed later.

    But, yes remote was enabled.
    No reverse proxy.
Very basic ddns -> my static IP -> port forward to server.

So I visit https://myddns.org:8777 and jellyfin should just load - this is how my other services work for me.

The cert is for that ddns url - what are you saying about jellyfins pickiness?

It needs to be in a particular format (pkcs12 in a PEM?) and must have both the key and certs, IIRC. Something like that. Not sure what format your ddns provider gives you.

You also didn't mention the OS and install method.

When you do get it installed, first start with just plain http to see if it even works remotely. Remove the cert and https as a factor.

Hey just set it up again. Did via zip / portable. This is win11.
Everything worked when I just double clicked jellyfin.exe.

Cert is pfx with password - it's all set up to work the same as emby (same cert even).

But when I tried to move it over to run as a service with nssm (I need this), both local and remote access didn't work.

The logs look the same between service and normal startup..

Another annoying thing is local and remote seem to be considered 2 different servers? When I run it I have to choose between two identically named servers but only one works based on local or remote access (this is a secondary issue as nssm service with remote access is primary concern).

    Thanks

Ok sorted aboce..for some reason the config and data dirs had changed to somewhere under system32/config instead of appadata/local.

Now I have the remaining issue of two servers to choose from... I only have one server!
