    Hi there

I just started testing Jellyfin as an alternative to Plex and I was super impressed. However, as I tried watching a movie on my Android phone through the Jellyfin app I experienced a "deal-breaking" issue. During playback there seems to be no or poor downmixing from 5.1 to stereo.

Any "speech" is almost inaudible while everything else is cranked up high. This is true for all movies/series I tried. I did try to search around for any configuration suggestions as to what setting I am missing. It seems that most of what I found indicate a need to re-encode files to include generated 2.0 audio track which can be selected upon playback. This seems like it should be unlikely, right?

Playback of the same files on the same phone using VLC, or streaming using Plex, works without issues. If this is possible through local playback on the phone or using Plex I figure there surely must be some simple setting I am just missing which would solve this issue?

Any suggestions or references to the correct documentation to solve this issue would be much appreciated

This is a known issue with, AFAIK, no way to work around it in the official client.

A lot of users with this issue had success using Findroid as their video client.

Have you got a link to a ticket or thread where this has been raised? I also have this issue and am happy to submit a bug report if one hasn't been raised. Findroid fixed it for me but would like to see it fixed on jellyfin too Smiling-face

Hmm. I could have sworn there was a ticket open already.

Go ahead and submit a ticket. Worst that can happen is that we find the original and link your ticket to it.

Did Findroid work for you? You can also try changing the player that the official clients uses. Use the web player instead of the integrated player.

On mobile, using the Integrated player or Findroid works fine. My 4k Chromecast, PC and Macbook are fine without having to change settings. It's just the default web player on my Android phone that seems to cause issues. It also seems to occur only on certain files, the common point of failure seems to be the audio files using 5.1 quality audio. I'll raise an issue for this properly in a bit

Oh. Why would you use the web player over the integrated player?

Default setting on Android. Haven't needed a reason to change it before, neither have other people who use the same instance

For clarity, "Web Player" is the one that has this issue. Integrated and External player both seem fine

Why, why would the default option for the Android client be the webplayer???? I knew there had to be a simple solution, switching from web to integrated player in the android app solved the issue immediately! 5.1 downmixing to 2.0 works as good as with plex or direct file playback in VLC.

Huh. I reset my app and it does indeed default to the web player.

Spoke with a dev and this choice was due to some issues with the integrated player in the past. It wasn't ready to be the default player. It has been significantly improved and the next Android release they plan to use the integrated player by default.
