SOLVED: HEVC/x265 Transcoding Issues - Ugreen NASync

Is it possible to get HEVC files to play properly on Jellyfin?

    Hello Everyone,

I am new to Jellyfin but I have been impressed with alot of the customization I can do on it. However, I have been running into an issue with transcoding that is really confusing me.

I have been trying to get mine set up on my Ugreen NAS for a while, and the results have been less than ideal. I have two different types of video codecs that make up my collection, H.264 and H.265 (or HEVC). It can play the H.264 files just fine, but not the HEVC. I have it enabled HEVC Hardware Decoding, but it still won't play. I have gotten these files to play on VLC media player, and in Ugreen's built in Video player. Just not in Jellyfin.

I know I have gotten these files to play in Jellyfin before, but I don't remember what I did. I don't want to convert all of those HEVC files into a compatible format if I can help it, but this is driving me nuts. (I have over a thousand TV episodes in this format!)

Has anyone else had this issue, and were you able to get it to work?

Below, I have attached the error log for when I play a certain video file. Hopefully it will help.

Here are the specs for my system:
    Ugreen NAS DXP4800plus
    CPU: Intel® Pentium® Gold 8505 / 4400 MHz Clock Speed / 5 Cores / 6 Threads
    RAM: 8 Gbs [Expandable]
    GPU: None (I think)

SOLUTION: I can't believe it was as simple as checking a box in Ugreen's OS! When setting up the container in Ugreen's docker, make sure the checkbox "Graphics Card Performance" is enabled. this will allow GPU passthru and enable you to play HEVC files.

Did you pass the GPU into the container?

@TheDreadPirate I have not, and I'm not sure how to do that using Ugreen's docker. I'll have to do some research.

Does UGreen use a UI to manage docker? Or are you using the command line?

If you are using the command line to setup and configure docker, you can just use our documentation directly.

@TheDreadPirate Ugreen uses a UI to manage docker. I was able to find the solution in that way. Thank you for your advice though. Smiling-face

I got the exact same problem. Is there no way to change the settings after you created the docker?

I'm not familiar with Ugreen NAS's OS, but you should just be able to edit how you installed it and relaunch with a new container.

Yeah I figured it out. Its activated, but it still doesnt use the GPU on jellyfin.

The normal player of UGOS is using it.

Jellyfin will only use the GPU for transcoding. If the client can play the video unmodified you won't see any CPU OR GPU usage.

Or do you mean you are still seeing a lot of CPU usage?

If I deactivate transcoding, it plays but with 100% CPU.

If I activate it, the movie just crashes right in the beginning.
