When I play any film with srt subtitles embedded in the mkv or external in direct or transcode mode on my LG TV with the webos app v1.1.2, they are not displayed despite selection. If I start the same film without an srt subtitle and add the srt subtitle later, the srt subtitle seems to be displayed correctly. Other subtitle formats, such as PGS or VobSub, where the film has to be transcoded due to incompatibility with my TV, work without error. I am posting the error here because the jellyfin webos app is a wrapper for jellyfin web.

This is likely due to the subtitle extraction process running in the background when you start the media. This can take some time, regardless of the power of your machine. If you have "extract subtitles on the fly" enabled, when you start the media, Jellyfin starts playing the media while extracting the subs in the background.

If, when you press a button to make the player controls appear, you see "Fetching additional information" and a spinning wheel, it's busy extracting the subs. Just be patient.

Ah, thank you for the explanation. Yes, that aligns with my observations. It's indeed the case that the subtitles appear later (after about 20-30 minutes). The part about the spinning wheel in the settings is accurate as well.

My Jellyfin server runs on a Linux (Ubuntu 22.04) mini computer directly (without Docker or similar) with an 8-core Intel i7-11370H (11th generation) CPU. Performance-wise, that should not be an issue, as the CPU, with the integrated graphics card, can transcode 4K movies without problems. Currently, my LG TV is connected to the Wi-Fi 5 network. When playing movies (including 4K), there are no delays.

Is there a way to speed up the process with subtitles? I made sure that the movies always have an SRT subtitle so that I can play the movie natively without transcoding (for HDR and such) because my LG TV doesn't understand other subtitle formats, and it would otherwise transcode the movies.
