With 10.9.0 and 10.9.1, Jellyfin does not import epubs with special characters like german umlauts anymore.

Renaming the files (and even the titles with calibre) does not help.

Any suggestions?

Does this only happen to books? Do you have series or movies with an umlaut?

Only with ePubs, PDFs are working fine.

I don‘t manage my movies with Jellyfin, but I have some song titles containing umlauts, and they are ok.

@Fallenbagel and I have been trying to reproduce this. But we are not able to get an error. I think we need more information on how your books are structured and named. Could you provide us with a file tree?

By chance, do you provide Jellyfin with a localization environment variable? like DOTNET_SYSTEM_GLOBALIZATION_INVARIANT? remove those and try again.

Thanks, that worked!

I am also using a container - docker on a QNAP NAS, managed by Portainer.

I removed DOTNET_SYSTEM_GLOBALIZATION_INVARIANT and also changed all other language-related environment variables to German.

For some books, I had to switch the filter "unplayed" ("Ungespielt" in German) on and off.

SOLVED: Importing ebooks with special characters
