I'm having a little bit of a strange problem. For some movies that I play through Jellyfin on my Roku 3820RW there is no audio. The video plays fine, and everything works fine on other devices I play the movies on, but it's a bit disappointing because I mainly use Jellyfin on my Roku.
I can't find a pattern. AAC, DTS-HD, TrueHD, 7.1, and 5.1 tracks all both work on some movies, and don't work on others. I've tried changing my client settings to prefer the AC3 codec to make sure it transcodes, but that's no luck. Every time I look at the progress on the dashboard, the video always direct plays, but the audio always transcodes, so it's not a compatibility problem. Even when I restart the server, the same movies always have no audio, and the ones that do have audio always do, I'm not sure I understand why.

Here's a log for one of the movies that did not work: https://pastebin.com/jSY1Wtx3

I'm using Jellyfin 10.9.11, and all of my servers drivers are up to date, as well as my Roku's software. I am using my TV speakers for my audio if that is relevant.

Are you using a reverse proxy? The dashboard not updating with the playback status would indicate some sort of web socket issue. Not sure why that would cause issues with audio.

I am using a reverse proxy to access the server externally, but that is not what I'm doing with my Roku, I mostly use the server locally.
The dashboard does properly update with the video. Unless you mean it's saying something wrong when it says it's transcoding audio when there is none of it?

No. I was just trying to eliminate a misconfiguration on the reverse proxy as a factor.

Do you see any pattern with the problem occurring when audio transcoding occurs vs not occuring?

Can you share your main Jellyfin server log and provide a list of movies that worked and movies that didn't? So I can see what is going on with each in the log.

Responding in case this thread comes up in other peoples searches for the problem.

It's been a few days, but I was able to do extensive testing on my Roku. Changing the transcoded codec worked for some movies, but not others. I noticed that movies with no audio also did not have any of the menu sounds when in the UI while the movie was playing, which lead me to believe it was a weird way the Roku itself handled transcoding the Audio. I use my TV speakers, and going into the Roku's audio settings I changed the preferred audio method from Dolby to Stereo, and that fixed my problem! There was no problem with Jellyfin.

I have no idea why that solved the issue, I assumed the Roku would automatically handle and transcode formats that aren't compatible with my speakers, or that it could play any format it accepted, but I guess that's not the case! I'm glad it was a simple solution though, this bugged me for... I guess I just accepted I couldn't watch certain movies on Roku for years.
