    Hello dear Jellyfin community,

Since yesterday my Jellyfin dashboard shows content that I don't own or have in my media directory.
At least the preview pictures/thumbnails and titles are something completely different and most of them I haven't even heard of.
However, when I start the content, it is in fact the videos that I have on my NAS device.

So, I assume the metadata somehow got messed up.
So, I clicked on "Dashboard" > "Scan all libraries", but it didn't change anything.

Any idea how it got messed up and how I could fix this?

The only thing that I can recall is, that I structured my media library (e.g. shows) completely new....whereas before I used to have it in 1 single directory totally messed up.
Yesterday I created A-Z sub directories, and moved all the shows in each respective letter.

Could this be the reason why thumbnails and titles are now all messed up?

    best,
    hellslide

This sounds like your media was misidentified when you shifted stuff around. What are some example folder and file names?
    Jellyfin 10.10.7 (Docker)
    Ubuntu 24.04.2 LTS w/HWE
    Intel i3 12100
    Intel Arc A380
    OS drive - SK Hynix P41 1TB
    Storage

    That's exactly right.
I could confirm this by going back to the old structure and scanning the library again.

What could be the reason for this misidentification? Is it generally not recommend to structure your extensive media library (shows and movie) through A-Z sub directories?

For example I had a folder named "The Bear" with 2 sub-directories "Season 1" and "Season 2".
and then I put it in another parent directory "The" > "The Bear" > "Season 1".
    Just as an example.

But after this change, it changed to something like an "Indian" tv show with Indian artwork and also the title changed.
Funny thing is, the original folder name in the file system didn't change at all. Just the way it was presented/displayed in Jellyfin.

    Weird, huh?

I completely missed this the first time.  Do not nest movie folders.  That is 100% not supported and almost certainly the cause of the misidentification.  Jellyfin uses the folder names as part of the identification process.  If the folder with the movie is nested it will use all the folders in the path to construct the query.

    Code:
    Movies
    └── Best_Movie_Ever (2019)
        ├── Best_Movie_Ever (2019) - 1080P.mp4
        ├── Best_Movie_Ever (2019) - 720P.mp4
        ├── Best_Movie_Ever (2019) - Directors Cut.mp4
        ├── behind the scenes
│  ├── Making of the Best Movie Ever.mp4
        │  └── Finding the right score.mp4
        ├── interviews
        │  └── Interview with the Director.mp4
        └── extras
            └── Home recreation.mp4

    Thanks a lot, TheDreadPirate.
    This was most helpful.

Any recommendations though how to keep some sort of structure and house-keeping?
Is it maybe a good idea to move away stuff that is already watched?
It might become a bit too clustered and overloaded to display everything in Jellyfin. Kinda like a needle in a haystack?

From a file system perspective, you should just follow the recommended structure.

As for the Jellyfin interface, you can filter by unwatched/watched/resumeable.
