Issues when connecting with public IP on local network

I finally figured out how to set up jellyfin after migrating from Plex, and everything is going smoothly except for one issue.

My problem arises whenever I try to locally connect to my server with the same address I use when I'm not at home. If I use my public ip if I'm not home it works great, but as soon as I get home it stops being able to connect. I have found a way around this by signing out and the back in with my local ip but this is really annoying to do, and I'm wondering if there is way to fix this or is this just a normal thing.

If your router supports host tables or custom DNS entries, you can set the router to resolve your domain to your local IP instead of your public IP. This is how I handle it and my phone transitions from local to public seamlessly when I leave the house.

I've checked and it does not seem that my router supports either option.

How about NAT hairpin/loopback? What kind of router do you have?

I couldn't find that in the settings, and on lookup it seems that my router/isp doesn't support or allow me to use it

Without a way to keep local traffic local, with the two methods I mentioned, I'm not sure there is an easy solution. You COULD setup your own DNS separate from your router. Like a pihole.
