i have a "special" episode of a TV show that isn't showing up in the "next up" row.
it is the most recent unwatched episode of the show, and the special is the most recent episode.

i've checked the metadata of the episode and the "air after series" field is correctly filled out, as is the release date.
it's correctly matched with TheTVDB, and has the correct season of 0.

am i missing something obvious that is causing it to not show up?
i have a plex library running in parallel to jellyin (using the same media) and that is correctly listing the special episode in their "next up" list.

Can you show a screenshot of what you have for "Air after series"?

When I was watching Black Lagoon a few weeks ago, the specials were "next up" after the main season. None of the episodes have anything in the "airs after" or "airs before" fields.

In the “airs after series” box it says “18”.
This, I assume, pulled in from thetvdb.

The last watched episode is the last episode of season 18.

    Thetvdb episode Id is 10804942

And if you remove it that, what happens?

Clearing that field in the episode metadata makes no difference

I believe specials with metadata to display them after a certain episode is just for show.

It's unclear if this used to work, but now specials will not play after an episode despite being displayed after one. They will play all at the start or at the end of all other episodes (depending on how you configured it) I believe, and that's how it works for everyone currently.

So you didn't do anything wrong, it's just how Jellyfin currently works.

if that is true than that's a major failing.
as the "special" episode is the next unwatched episode in a show it should show up in the "Next up" regardless of whether it's part of a season or not.

@thedreadedpirate suggests that they should show up

We'll have to wait for him to reply. I'm just commenting my experience after messing around with specials and making them display after certain episodes.

    update
if i enable the setting "Display specials within their series they aired in" then this special episode appears in the "next up", however that setting also means that the special is listed as an episode within season 18, which it isn't, it's a standalone special episode. it's still remains listed as an episode in the "special" season as well as being inclued within seaon 18.

it looks like that when "Display specials within their series they aired in" is disabled then the specials are not included in "next up".
