Using the stock HTML player on desktop, it seems like the player sets the aspect ratio based on the "original display aspect ratio" field instead of the "display aspect ratio" field when the two disagree. Is there any way to configure the player to prefer the "display aspect ratio" field instead or, less preferably, to force a specified aspect ratio for a particular "show"/"movie"?
Yes, I could edit the files so that the two fields agree, but it would be greatly preferable to avoid that. Yes, I know it is easy to do and am perfectly capable of doing it; it is still preferable to avoid.
Edit: Just to make it clear, lest it be overlooked as a super niche issue, this is a problem with anamorphic content (such as video that was stored on DVD). The "original DAR" is the 3:2 common to the format, whereas the DAR field (and intended way to display the video) is 4:3, which is not being used by the player.
