Jellyfin currently sorts artists alphabetically without considering the language of their names. This leads to a mixed list where artists from different languages are combined, which can be confusing and inconvenient when managing a diverse music library.
Problem:
- Alphabetical sorting combines artists from various languages (e.g., Russian and English), making it difficult to navigate and organize the library efficiently.
- When filtering artists by the first letter, the system shows a combined list of artists from different languages. For example, selecting the letter "S" might display:
- Scorpions
- Сектор Газа
- Сектор Газовой Атаки
- Серьга
- Слава
- Слот
- СМЕТАНА band
- StaFFорд63
- Scorpions
- Language-Based Grouping in Filtering: Introduce language-based grouping when filtering artists by the first letter. For example:
- English Artists: StaFFорд63, Scorpions
- Russian Artists: Сектор Газа, Сектор Газовой Атаки, Серьга, Слава, Слот, СМЕТАНА band
- Alternatively, provide an option to prioritize artists from one language over another, such as listing English artists first, followed by Russian artists.
- English Artists: StaFFорд63, Scorpions
- Language-Based Grouping in General Artist View: Implement similar language-based grouping when viewing the full list of artists. Display artists in separate language groups or sections within the alphabetical list. For instance:
- English: All English artists listed alphabetically
- Russian: All Russian artists listed alphabetically
- English: All English artists listed alphabetically
- Other media players, such as Kodi and AIMP, have implemented similar language-based sorting features. For example, Kodi and AIMP prioritize English artists regardless of the interface language and then list artists from other languages. This approach simplifies navigation and enhances the user experience by grouping artists in a more intuitive manner.
Benefits:
- Improved Organization: Helps users find and manage artists more easily by grouping them based on language, making the browsing experience more intuitive.
- Enhanced Navigation: Provides clearer visibility and access to artists from specific languages, both in filtered views and in the overall artist list.
