TV url

Hi there, as one very dense user that needs lot's of help can you please tell me the exact way the URL should look when trying to connect to the Jellyfin server on my TV. It says please enter a valid URL and port number. I have tried every which way to do it but have had no success.

This is what I put in http://192.1**.0.1:8096

I get Unknown Error Occurred are you connecting to a jelly fin server

What do I need to enter please.

It should just be the server IP and jellyfin port. In my case it would be

http://192.168.1.3:8096

But use your server's IP.

Thanks for the reply. Can I just say I seem to have the oddest set up here. I bought my PC online from a company that went bust not long after I'd purchased it. In the Network settings I have Ethernet Unidentified Network Intel ® Gigabit Network Connection Ethernet 2 Network Killer E2500 Gigabit Ethernet Controller and Local Area Connection 10 Microsoft Wifi Direct Virtual Adapter. Over the years I've never known if everybody has this in their set up or even which is my true computers IP address. Using ipconfig I have used every internet address I see one after the other into JellyFin on my TV where is asking to connect to the JellyFin server. At the end of every ip address I've used either :8096 or :8920 and still no joy. What a pickle I'm in.

I just noticed this in your first post.  The .1 at the end is usually your routers addresses.  Definitely not right.  Also, 192.168.#.# addresses are not publicly addresses-able so no need to censor it.

The particular NIC you have has zero bearing on whether Jellyfin works or not.

Can you describe your Jellyfin server?  What OS is it running?  I'm assuming some version of Windows.  Is Jellyfin running on your PC and is it allowed through your firewall?

Click on Start > type "resource monitor" > click on the "Network" tab > expand the "Listening Ports" table.  Find jellyfin.exe on port 8096.  The column on the far right is the "Firewall status" column.  What is in that column for jellyfin.exe on port 8096?

Thanks once again for trying to help. Don't forget I stated at the beginning that I was a little dense when it comes to this stuff lol. Right I am on a Windows 10 Home Edition PC. All up to date. I have also allowed JellyFin through my Firewall. It works instantly on my PC and I have no problems with that. I have an LG Smart TV with the JellyFin app installed. In Resource Manager under Listening Ports jellyfin.exe PID14560 address IPv4 unspecified port 8096 protocol TCP firewall status Allowed not restricted. Does this help?

Thank you for clearing up that I didn't need to censor my ip address I must have seen somebody do it somewhere and just thought it was the right thing to do.

Jellyfin will always work locally, even if there are firewall issues. But that doesn't appear to be the case. But that firewall rule only applies to the "private" interface. Is your network interface set to private?

Using Settings

You can also change the network connection type in Settings. Many people choose this option if they’re using an Ethernet cable to connect to the Internet.

1. Press Windows key + X.

2. Choose Settings.

3. Click Network and Internet.

4. On the left-side pane, Choose Ethernet.

5. Click on the name of your connection. You may have multiple connections listed, so choose the one you’re actively using.

6. Choose Private.

7. Close the window.

Now you should find other computers on your network and use networked printers. You can always return to the page and change the network back to the public setting in the same way later if you prefer.

Hi TheDreadPirate, it looks like we could be sorted. Somehow we had an ethernet wire in the back of the TV and Wifi enabled. We took the ethernet wire out and hey presto we are now Jellyfin users. It took a long time for the penny to finally drop but we got there. Thanks again for all your help.
