    roger, thanks for the heads up.

    an update from my odyssey:
    I'm back in the game. installing trueNAS Scale was inredibly easy. restoring the encrypted zfs pool also worked like a charm. I have never done this in action before, only knew the theory, so I feel like I've gone "through it" for real now.

    Installing jellyfin was also smooth.

    I have almost the exact state of things. My media is mounted in jellyfin and my TV, tablet, and Android are connected. external web is also working since I just had to change where the caddy reverse proxy was pointing to.

    Now I just have to install the extra plugins and create all the extra users that are gone.

    All in all it is not too bad, even though intbetween I felt like everything is lost.

    I'm currently trying to convince an acquaintance to NOT install TrueNAS Core on the NAS they plan on building for exactly the reasons you found out.
