    Hey all -
This was originally going to be one of those “how the hell do I fix this” posts. But played around and think I figured it out so this is now one of those “FYI, super nuanced problem and solution that is a bug and should be looked at” posts.

I have a number of movies with different versions (directors cut, etc) properly named and embedded in Collections. No issues lately. I know there are a number of posts about this but it hasn’t given me issues recently thankfully.

I went through and renamed all my media to put the “The” at the end (ie. “Movie, The (2000)” rather than “The Movie (2000)”. After doing so, I did need to go through the library and rematch/fix previously matched movies. Not ideal but whatever.

The main issue occurred is that after putting the “The” at the end, messed up the merging of the versions. So after the file renaming, when I went to merge The Movie [Directors Cut] and The Movie [Theatrical] versions, it would merge but it would duplicate the listing. So there would be 2 of the same movie each with the 2 versions. The only way I’ve been able to fix this is by moving the “The” back to the front.

So there’s something funky going on with versions when The is at the end.

Curious to hear a) if anyone else has organized putting the “The” at the end and having the same issue.

Did you also rename the folder? For merging to work, the files need to match the folder name followed by the dash (-) separator.

    Movie, The (1999)\
     --- Movie, The (1999) - Director's cut.mkv
     --- Movie, The (1999) - Theatrical cut.mkv

So I renamed the folder but didn’t rename the files within in at first. Pretty sure I did try to rename the folder and files both and it still gave me issues. For those movies with single versions, the library scan was able to match (most of the time). It’s the movies with versions that got messed up. I also solved it by just removing the “the” entirely. Regardless, I think if the library scan could detect and match it properly, merging should as well, no?
