Wasn’t sure whether to post this in troubleshooting or general, since I am open to other clients, but it would be good to fix the technical issues if possible. At the moment I’m using 3 different client apps and am frustrated with all of them.
Information
The issues I am having are with both the Jellyfin client app, and Swiftfin:
So I am ideally wondering if there’d be any reason for the Jellyfin player drifting out of sync that would be possible to recently. Or at the very least, a way to stop the native player crashing on PiP.
I have previously been running Jellyfin Server on Windows for about a year, and never had the same sync issue with the custom Jellyfin player until I switched to Ubuntu (same hardware)
Thank you and anppreciate any insight.
Information
- I am running Jellyfin natively on Ubuntu. No docker.
- I mostly use Jellyfin on my iPad (11” M1 Pro) whilst multitasking, switching in and out of Picture in Picture.
- I play to HomePods via Airplay. A different speaker depending what room I am in.
The issues I am having are with both the Jellyfin client app, and Swiftfin:
- On the Jellyfin app, which is my much preferred interface, the video and audio get out of sync when playing over AirPlay with the Jellyfin player. The drift is quite slow so takes a while to notice. This is the issue I’d most like to fix as I really like the Jellyfin interface, and the custom player, and the native player comes with other drawbacks too (noo auto loading next episode etc)
- If I switch to use the native player, the sync issue is resolved. However the app crashes without fail every time I enter picture-in-picture mode. Regardless of media type, and regardless of whether I am air playing or not.
- On Swiftfin, which is my second-preferred interface, the PiP button on the native player does not always appear, and I can’t figure out the conditions under which to make it appear. Sometimes it seems to disappear during a stream. If the button is not visible, then auto PiP on swipe up also fails to work. I cannot usually make it through a 20 minute episode of something without restarting the app.
- Outside of this forum’s jurisdiction but whilst Infuse works, its iPad app lacks the ability to auto-PiP on swipe up completely, which makes it by far my least-preferred interface.
