Howdy, currently when I stream one of my media files that happens to be in 4k, the video jumps and stutters here and there, all other 1080p videos play fine no issues. Im currently trying to pinpoint the cause if anyone could help.
IMPORTANT:
when using direct play i have zero issues. but when a devices is transcoding it does this. now the device supports 4k natively its a chromecast 4k. but its accessing my jellyfin server via the internet through tailscale. Hence ive lowered the bitrate from that device to 3-5mb not the usual (auto) or 200mb setting in the player. thus a transcode is being caused.
I've noticed that my gpu will max out at 100% then go to 0% and continue. other 1080p videos being transcoded dont do this they usually hit 97% or 100% but dont drop. and i can see ffmpeg working and not closing unlike the 4k stream.
my current build is as followed.
16gb ram
13th Gen Intel Core i3-13100F
asus GeForce GTX 1650 sff low profile 4gb ddr6 lp
4 x st8000vn004-3cp101 8tb
i have it in a storage pool two way mirror setup
lastly no other streams are running when i try to view this video. when testing this with local devices that arent needing to be transcoded no issues occur as its direct playing
some times when monitoring the stream via the admin dashboard, it will say the stream is being transcoded then somtimes says its direct play switching between the two. only happens with the 4k. unable to provide logs unfortunately.
the aim here is to ascertain whether or not my assumption that the gpu is bottlenecking the system or not.
cheers again
