I was searching for an HDD and I found that WD doesn't sell anymore the Helium filled WD120EFBX (out-of stock, no restock date) and only sell the WD120EFGX (Air).
They are both 12TB WD Red Plus drive
I'm concerned about the noise level of this new drive model. The specification for the noise level says:
- WD120EFBX (Helium) idle 20dBA, seeking 29dBA
- WD120EFGX (Air) idle 34db, seeking 39db.
Does anyone here already bought and has some experience with the new WD120EFGX and can tell me how noisy are these disks? Are they terrible loud?
As my "NAS" (an intel nuc with an usb 3.5" drive with idle 24dBA, seeking 28dBA) is in the room where I sleep, a drive with seeking 39db could be acceptable at a distance of 2 meter or could be annoying as the ticking of a clock?
As reference at the moment with the drive I currently have (24dBA/28dBA) I cannot hear any seek noise when using Jellyfin and directly accessing a file in the disk.
thanks for any advice
