After finishing ripping all CDs that we own, I am now starting to rip all the DVDs that we own (576p from what I saw so far).
I am ripping the DVDs to .mkv containers using MakeMKV and then use MKVToolNix to multiplex the files to remove unwanted audio tracks and subtitles. I currently have a decent chunk of muxed files ready to be transcoded using Handbrake and started playing around with some settings to see how differend codecs affect quality.

As for video, I've landed on AV1, however no matter what audio codec I use, Jellyfin Web always seems to transcode both the Video (to H.264) and the Audio (to AAC) with the reason being "the audio codec is not supported". In the playback info tab on Jellyfin Web the original file Audio Codec shows as AAC LC when selecting AAC (avcodec) in Handbrake.
If I disable "Allow video playback that requires transcoding" for the user playing back the video, the web player then only remuxes the file to play with AV1 (direct) and AAC (direct). However I don't like using this "workaround" as if there is ever a legitimate need to transcode a file, the user won't be able to.

My question now is: Is the web player even capable of direct playing videos and if it is, what Handbrake settings should I be using?

CURRENTLY, if Jellyfin needs to transcode for any reason it will use the TS container, which does NOT support AV1. There is an option in the web client for fMP4, but I've never been able to get that to work. Version 10.9 will properly support fMP4 for transcoding to allow AV1 direct play, even if the audio still needs to transcode.

Is the Jellyfin Media Player desktop client not an option for you?
