Will the Jellyfin Android TV app ever support ASS subtitles?

I'm stoked about the release of v0.18.0 and how it supports PGS subtitles, among other great new features. I'm just curious if the app will ever support ASS subtitles. My server is not too powerful so it alternates between transcoding video with burned-in subtitles and pausing.

I'd appreciate any information. Thank you!

Not any time soon. The biggest blocker is that there is no Android compatible build of libass. This means that exoplayer/media3 doesn't support rendering .ass currently.

So you need someone knowledgeable in C/C++, the related build tools and Android development.
