    Hi all,

I am new to this and just dipping my toe into the water. My ultimate goal is to have in-home access on all my Roku devices and out-of-home access to my JellyFin media server on my phone (through the android app) and my laptop (through the browser).

As I'm hoping to only do this setup once, I want to make sure I get the foundational building blocks correct. So my question is:

Can I build this server on Windows 11 or do I need a Windows Server 22?

    Thanks.

If you want to keep it online 24/7, I would go with the server version.

    Thanks for the quick response.

What parts of the server edition would help my setup to be more successful? Are there server roles / features that I would want to install to support the JellyFin setup?

I haven't used the server version of Windows.
The main reason I recommended it is because the Home edition has frequent monthly updates that will most likely force the PC to restart after some time has gone by.

I would recommend Jellyfin to be installed on something Linux-based, but I have seen people be happy with the Windows server version.

It's been a while since I was a Windows sysadmin (current Linux sysadmin) but, echoing Efficient's point, Windows Server by default will not restart for updates or things like that. Since a server needs to be available as much as possible unless the admin brings it down manually.
