    Hi !

Is it possible to force transcoding to a specified codec  reagrdless of the input codec ?
I saw an option on my client (S23) to set a preferred video codec. But regardless which saource i take ita always playen in the codec of the source.
How can i force jellyfin to transcode to my "favourite" Codec ? (possibility to transcode is given by GPU card)

    Ciao Gerd

There is not a way to force this. You can enable encoding to HEVC or AV1 and if the client is compatible, that will be selected (assuming your GPU is capable). There are only these two options -- the third is H264.

Using Kodi as a client you can force a specific codec. In other clients to force a transcode you can set a bitrate below the source rate.

    But not a specific codec.

On the webUI if you click on your profile icon (top right), then select Playback, you can choose your Preferred transcode video codec. When direct playing, it will play in its original format, and it doesn't make sense to force transcode if direct play works.

    Hi !

Why its does not make sense to use always AV1 (if GPU is capable to transcode) to save bandwitdth ?
