Any news on this issue if or when this will get fixed? This is really annoying.. The strange thing is that all my subtitles work when I watch them on plex instead of jellyfin on my androidtv?

Are your subtitles external? Does Jellyfin have permission to read them if they are?

When I start watching it on Jellyfin, it displays: Loading subtitles and after like 30sec. it shows the error message. When I watch the exact same movie on plex, I don't get any error.

Can you share your jellyfin log with us via https://sourceb.in/ ? What kind of subtitles are they? ASS? PGS?

Just gonna bump this issue up again. It’s now around 6 years after the bug was reported. Many android tv client updates were published. None of them fixed basic subtitle support.
Android tv maintainer said he re-wrote the playback code which would fix the subtitle support, but of course it was launched for music playback first, not for video playback…. Makes sense since we all know jellyfin is used mostly for music, not video /s Workaround is: 1) use Plex 2) use Emby 3) use Kodi 4) use jellyfin for Kodi addon |
