Any news on this issue if or when this will get fixed? This is really annoying.. The strange thing is that all my subtitles work when I watch them on plex instead of jellyfin on my androidtv?

Are your subtitles external? Does Jellyfin have permission to read them if they are?

When I start watching it on Jellyfin, it displays: Loading subtitles and after like 30sec. it shows the error message. When I watch the exact same movie on plex, I don't get any error.

Just gonna bump this issue up again. It’s now around 6 years after the bug was reported. Many android tv client updates were published. None of them fixed basic subtitle support.
Android tv maintainer said he re-wrote the playback code which would fix the subtitle support, but of course it was launched for music playback first, not for video playback…. Makes sense since we all know jellyfin is used mostly for music, not video /s Workaround is: 1) use Plex 2) use Emby 3) use Kodi 4) use jellyfin for Kodi addon

I have this issue, but all I have to do is reload the subtitles a couple times. Usually on the second or third attempt I will change the subtitles back to "off" (after the "failed to load" error leaving them in the "on" position), then I will put them back on again and they will work as normal.
My wild, inexperienced guess is that the backend needs time to burn in the subtitles, and the first one or two fails are the subs not yet being ready as the process is queued and than executed. This is not at all a deal breaker, it takes a couple seconds of tinkering and then works perfectly. @vdscsdc stop being an arse. Insulting someone who doesn't owe you anything and then acting like it was sarcastic doesn't make you less insulting. In fact, it makes you look like more of an arsehole because you can't swallow your ego and apologise. Shitting on the devs won't make them work faster, it will just burn them out. Then the whole community will be worse off, which makes you 3x the arse. Arse arse arse.

I also still have this problem on my Sony X95L Android Tv. This is really annoying, cause this nearly happenes on every movie I watch on Jellyfin

If the root cause was subtitle burnin taking too long, the video wouldn't even start at all. From your description, the video does start but the subtitles fail to load. To me this sounds like on-the-fly extraction of embedded subtitles is failing or taking too long.
This can be caused by slow storage. You can try the "Subtitle Extract" plugin, which will pre-extract your embedded subtitles (this runs on a scheduled job). |
