    Hi,

I'm running Jellyfin on an Epyc server in my homelab and noticed a lot of lag when it comes to playing videos that need transcoding. Currently the server running Jellyfin is using a AMD RX590 for transcoding of mostly h264 videos. As I am re-doing the server (racking it) I thought now is a good time to look into if there is a decent performance boost when it comes to transcoding between the two GPUs. This is all running on Linux (Debian 12).

What are your thoughts on this upgrade for h264 video transcoding? Normally I would look at benchmarks but I couldn't find much on transcoding performance for GPUs.

Also are there any concerns about passing through the arc card if I move to proxmox? The RX 590 gave me hell but I didn't spend too much time on it or ask for help.

    Thanks!

It's a big improvement, but I found that Debian 12 did not have the drivers for it so I had to reinstall my server with Ubuntu 24.04. Everything was in docker so the migration was easy and the GPU worked immediately - I spent a day messing with debian backports before caving and installign Ubuntu. anything with a kener that's version 6.2 or newer will work fine
