it's happened again. Fresh install of Jellyfin. It seems to work fine until I reboot my computer. Running it on Windows 11. Last time I think it was suspected that there are two different copies of the DB file somehow.... Because even editing the system.xml file to change the startupwizard entry doesn't work to reset the password. And this time I made MULTIPLE users and none of them work.

I have this is the 3rd time I have uninstalled everything and re-installed/resetup Jellyfin.

The version of Jellyfin you are running (e.g. 10.8.10): 10.10.1
Your installation method and platform (e.g. Linux Docker, Debian repository, Windows installer, etc.): Windows Installer

Check in C:\ProgramData\ and C:\Users\yourUser\appdata\local. Are there Jellyfin folders in one or both?

What are the time stamps for the ProgramData\Jellyfin folder? And C:\ProgramData\Jellyfin\Server\data\jellyfin.db. For the DB, right click and click properties. Does it state when the file was created?

Is Jellyfin running as your user or another user? Is it running as an app or as a service?

Share the server log from C:\ProgramData\Jellyfin\Server\log via pastebin.

    ProgramData\Jellyfin folder: ‎Monday, ‎November ‎11, ‎2024, ‏‎12:09:19 PM
    ‎C:\ProgramData\Jellyfin\Server\data\jellyfin.db: Created: Monday, ‎November ‎11, ‎2024, ‏‎12:09:23 PM

Is Jellyfin running as your user or another user? Is it running as an app or as a service? - Service. Under LogOn it says "This Account Network Service"

There are several log files in that directory many starting with FFmpeg (I suspect you don't want those)
But then there is one called log_20241112.log and one called log_20241113.log

    This is 12 first: https://pastebin.com/RAizF3QT
This is the one with 13: https://pub.microbin.eu/upload/bat-ape-wasp

Pastebin didn't work for the 2nd one... I had to use a different service.

You need to change the user that runs Jellyfin to your own.  I am willing to bet the issue is that the service may not have complete permissions to the data directory.

Double check ownership of that Jellyfin ProgramData folder. I'm wondering if it wasn't able to commit any data to the database or something, but I don't see log entries that would indicate that. Though I do see probable permission issues.

You may need to start over. But, hopefully, having the service running as your user will prevent this from happening again.

    Well, some progress.

    I stopped the service
I changed ownership of the ‎C:\ProgramData\Jellyfin\ directory.
I started the service, no change.

    I stopped the service
Then I edited the <IsStartupWizardCompleted>true</IsStartupWizardCompleted> to say false.
    I started the service

At least I could setup things again. We'll see if it lasts.

So bizarre it doesn't install correctly (with the correct permissions)... Windows!

I'll try for a few days and advise if it works after a few reboots. I can't say for sure that is what triggered the problem before, but it's my suspicion.

As far as I can tell, it was a permissions issue on the C:\ProgramData\Jellyfin\ directory. So odd that it doesn't install correctly but it looks good now. Thank you for the great support.
