Apologies if this has already been discussed - I searched the forum but couldn’t find any threads about this issue, so I’m not sure if I’m the only one experiencing it.

Since updating to Jellyfin Media Player for Windows v1.12.0, I’ve noticed that some movies freeze briefly (about half a second) at every scene change, which seems to coincide with keyframes. This doesn't happen with all movies, and I’ve checked the media info of the affected files but can’t pinpoint anything unusual.

For example, the movies in this group do exhibit the issue:

While these play without any problems:

I tried rolling back to v1.11.1, and the issue completely disappears — all movies play smoothly again. But once I reinstall v1.12.0, the freezing returns.

Any ideas what might be causing this?
    Appreciate any help or insight.

Hate to answer my own questions, but even though I've been trying to fix this problem for weeks now, I find the solution minutes after I create a thread about it here. 😄

The solution for me was to change "AV Sync Mode" to "Resample" under Settings -> Client Settings.

Still not sure why I didn't need to change that in v1.11.1.

It had been bothering me for a long time. Thanks to you, it’s working properly now.

Hate to revive this thread, but although changing "AV Sync Mode" to "Resample" worked on most movies, I just found out it causes havoc on others.

For example, I have two episodes of a TV series. One plays perfectly fine with AV Sync Mode set to either Resample or Audio. The other pauses half a second at each keyframe (scene change) when AV Sync Mode is set to Audio (but will otherwise play smoothly) or skips frames every half second or so when it's set to Resample.

So what is it that causes this? Here is the coded information side by side. So the one on the left plays perfectly fine, no matter what AV Sync Mode is set to, the one on the right never plays smoothly, regardless of the setting of AV Sync Mode.

The only differences I see I have marked in red. BTW, VLC plays both files just fine, so it's absolutely something in Jellyfin (or the embedded MPV player).

    EDIT:
Apparently, the one on the left is SDR, while the one on the right is HDR? But could that be the cause? Almost all my movies are HDR, and none (except a few) have this problem...

I was having the same issue. Apparently, for every cutscene, there is a micro freeze. It's brief and may not be noticeable for most scenes, but that extra linger on every frame before a scene change just looks very weird. I only experience this on Jellyfin (Windows client) though. No issues with Android, Android TV, iOS and even web. Also, noticed that the issue happens when I am playing back a 4K HEVC HDR video.

Anyway, your workaround definitely worked. Hopefully, this gets fixed on the next update.

I have same problem. I'm using 10.10.6 Jellyfin server running on Truenas 24.04.2.5. Jellyfin server 10.10.7 is not proposed for update.
Jellyfin Player for windows is 1.12.0
Videos causing problem are HDR10+ and HDR Dolby Vision.
I don't have the problem with IOS Jellyfin Mobile Client 1.6.1 on my iPad.
Note that HDR10+ and HDR Dobly Vision have "scene-by-scene or frame-by-frame adjustments to brightness and contrast, rather than the static, one-size-fits-all approach of standard HDR10".
This allows for better detail in both bright and dark areas of the screen, preventing details from being lost in shadows or highlights

Indeed setting "AV sync mode" to "resample" solves the problem but I'm afraid by the problems it may generate on other videos
Note: on IOS Jellyfin there is no "Client Settings" neither "Controls" in the "Settings" menu
