Is it normal for trickplay image generation to be extremely slow?

    I mean, EXTREMELY slow.

Is it normal for trickplay image generation to be extremely slow? My computer with i7 quad processor has been generating trickplay images for three days straight and only about a dozen movies out of 300 have generated trickplay images. I might just forget about this unless I am doing something wrong?
I complain about Jellyfin a lot and have no idea what I'm doing.

    yesn't?

with the default settings, it can take a very, very long time depending on how much media you have.

if you want to make it faster, here are some options. #1 is very simple and will produce dramatically faster scans, #2 may require some setup, with less impact.
    1. Enable "only generate images from keyframes" in the dashboard > playback > trickplay settings. The slightly reduced timing accuracy is not very noticeable, in my opinion.
    2. Setup hardware acceleration, then check the box for "Enable hardware decoding" in server dashboard > playback > Trickplay.
