    Hello all

My current rebuild is driving me bananas.

After my debacle 3 months ago i installed jellyfin as an app within truenas scale on a dell r720. I allocated to Jellyfin server 16gb ram during the installation.
I use jellyfin media player on my pcs and on my android phone. Most of my cds and dvds a that i used to load my media are old and some no longer work. and therefore i download the media. I do not have a gpu installed on the dell

    My issue:

Many of my videos no longer play and i get an error. These videos  are mostly mp4 or avi or mkv. the details of these videos show hevc and h265.
all these videos do not play in media player and some do play when i watch them directly from the ip of the server and some do not.

What and how should i configure the server (and media player) to see these videos.

I never had this issue before. I i read many articles and watch many videos with no success.

BTW Jellyfin both as a server or as a client should not care about the format of the media it presents. Jellyfin should be able to play 264 or 265 regardless of transcoding

Thank you in advance for your assistance
    Servers: Dell r720 128gb ram  2x 5690  24tb HGST
    Supermicro x10 32 gb ram 1 X 5675   20TB HGST
Truenas scale with Jellyfin  as an app in truenas on both
I still say to use less internet and use more cabernet (responsibly (only if driving))
    be well now

Without GPU you should avoid "Allow encoding in HEVC format" as it is a CPU killer, and at first glance I would say that it is your problem. Check your transcode settings and disable this if it is enabled. Transcoding anything will works perfectly, and your CPU will thank you.

    what is your media player?
Jellyfin will prefer direct play to transcoding if possible.
If the client can't play it it needs transcoding.
Please also make a picture of the playback->transcoding settings.

post jellyfin and ffmpeg transcoding logs to pastebin as well.

Hmm pastebin link is not working for me. Can you check that?

Anyway please uncheck both HEVC and AV1 encoding, that is heavy on cpu... default will be H264 then
