90% certain it's just the device struggling to play. I have two TVs with built in Android TV that perform very differently. Both 4K. Especially if I'm using ASS subs. One of them stutters with ASS subs enabled. I don't think there is a way around that. Its one of the reasons we tend to suggest a streaming dongle over using the built in Android TV.
