You should check what you have enabled in the dashboard.
Go to [Dashboard > Libraries > Display (on top banner)]. In this screen, the first option is "Date added behavior for new content".
I think by default, the date added is derived from the file's creation time.
Change this option to "Use date scanned into the library". This will apply to all your new files scanned into your libraries from now on.
I'm not sure if this will retroactively change the dates for your past media.
