SOLVED: Jellyfin not opening on any devices after 10.9.0 upgrade, and after downgrade

hey guys, wanted to hijack the post on a semi-related question:
Question: does both the server and the client need to be on the same version?
Context: currently running 10.8 on a windows machine but unfortunately the client is a hack-smash-together of a jellyfin-tizen build. I see some updates on the jellyfin-tizen github. Thinking of updating the server to 10.9 or above but worried that I'll break everything.
