There was a bug in a few of the early releases for v10.9 where custom season names were revereted/lost.
Your buddy's release is unaffected because that bug wasn't introduced yet.
I went through the same issue which has since been fixed (forgot with which exact release).
Also, if you weren't aware of how you keep losing the custom names, it happens on a rescan.
As long as you don't cause any sort of manual/automatic rescan on items where you changed the season names, your custom season names will remain.
Fix this by upgrading your server.
Thanks for the info. Unfortunately updating to the latest server version introduces other issues that cause other problems. Waiting for Collections to work as they used to so I don't lose everything again and can easily make updates to them as needed without having tto go through almost 300 collections and guess what's gone missing. At least I know I'm not going bonkers wondering WTF is happening.
