Are you absolutely sure? I just ran 2 tests with the same cmdline changing only the preset and this is what i got

faster preset
frame= 2926 fps=256 q=-0.0 Lsize= 93509kB time=00:01:37.51 bitrate=7855.5kbits/s speed=8.52xFile size and quality are also different.
