Doctor Who (1963) [tt0056751]/Season 18/Doctor Who s18e09 Full Circle.avi
And I added the "Doctor Who (1963) [tt0056751]" folder to the newly created media library.
Thanks for any clues more experienced users might be able to provide.

I have my shows setup this way per the documentation, you might try this:
"Movies and show series can be named with a metadata provider ID to improve matching. They can be added to a file name in the following format:
- [imdbid-tt12345678]
- [tmdbid-12345]
- [tvdbid-67890]
The following metadata providers are supported:
IMDb Service (IMDb) [imdbid-ttxxxxxxxx]
TheMovieDB (TMDB) [tmdbid-xxxxxxx]
TheTVDB (TVDB) (Shows Only) [tvdbid-xxxxxxx]"
In your case try the separate folder naming with the service id tag included with the id number:
Doctor Who (1963) [imdbid-tt0056751]
