As a work around, I have a separate Jellyfin library for these. Instead of putting the actual film, I put a 3 second placeholder video that I made for free in Adobe Express with animated text that says VOD and then I put which service it's on in the overview and a separate tag for each external service
So for example: External Library > Films > Superman (2025) > Superman (2025).mp4 (this mp4 is not the film itself, it's the placeholder animation)
Metadata reads as follows:
Title: Superman (AMAZON PRIME)
Overview: "AMAZON PRIME VIDEO ONLY 🏞️
4k Ultra HD
Superman, a journalist in Metropolis, embarks on a journey to reconcile his Kryptonian heritage with his human upbringing as Clark Kent."
Tag: Amazon
Then I can put it in whatever collection/playlist I want and it still comes up in search
An added bonus to a separate library is that I can see all my digital purchases at a glance, no matter which platform they're on. You can also restrict tags in parental controls, so that, for example, the Amazon placeholder listings wouldn't show up at all for another Jellyfin user who doesn't have access to your Amazon account
You'd still have to exit the app and go to the right one, but it solves the problem of loosing track of what you bought and where
If you want deep linking, I'd recommend Movies Anywhere
