I'm Joshua, project leader and release manager of Jellyfin.
I use Jellyfin mostly for videos (TV + Movies) and music, with a bit of YouTube on the side. I run it on Debian native, inside a VM, with a 238TB (1/2 usable) CephFS as the backing storage and NGiNX as the frontend proxy.
What's your story and setup?
Hi everyone,
I originally started using Jellyfin about three years ago, mainly to test my firewall rules from outside my network. Since then, it has grown into something much more; my family and friends now use it regularly to watch movies, TV series, and even some training videos.
Over the years, my setup has become increasingly complex as I have worked to make it stable and secure. Here’s my current configuration:
- Host: Proxmox
- CPU: i7 @ 3.4GHz
 - RAM: 20GB
 - No GPU passthrough (Proxmox doesn’t seem too happy about that!)

 - CPU: i7 @ 3.4GHz
 - VM: Debian 12 (14GB RAM)
- Media shared via NFS from an old macOS system

 - Network setup:
- Everything sits behind a load balancer acting as a reverse proxy
 - Only port 443 is open on the pfSense firewall
 - All traffic goes through Cloudflare for IP obfuscation and an extra layer of security

Really love what Jellyfin has become, thank you to the devs and community for keeping it open and improving!
