You may be right. I manually make my collection folders and get images from TMDB. If you search for whatever collection you want, there is usually a TMDB page with that collection that has a bunch of good posters you can choose from. I don't know if using the auto collection maker that Jellyfin has pulls from that or not.
That's about what I do. I'll just Google the title and add 'collection' and it usually returns something good. Sometimes it requires cropping to get the aspect ratio right. If there are no good ones, I'll just grab an image and photoshop an icon.
