Jellyfin no longer ships with TheTVDB support out of the box (so via plug-in only), so I presume that is the way to go.

Since Jellyfin needs a plug-in for TheTVDB now, it makes sense why many users feel pulled toward TMDB as the default path. Metadata accuracy goes beyond just posters or plot summaries. It's a huge help when creating personalized TV listings.
