Subtitle detection issue with existing.srt files

Jellyfin not detecting existing.srt subtitle files, workaround requires downloading a random.srt file to trigger detection.

    Introduction
I've been struggling with a frustrating issue with Jellyfin for six months, and I'm hoping someone can help me resolve it. Initially, I installed Jellyfin on a basic server, but after six months, I upgraded to a new server and migrated my media library, including all.srt and.mp4 files (everything else was a fresh install).

    The Problem
On my new server, I stored my media in the same directory as before (/opt/media). However, when I played a movie, I noticed that subtitles were not showing up when started to play, neither were they displayed in the list of subtitles. I verified that the.srt file existed in the same directory as the corresponding.mp4 file, with the exact same filename except for the.srt extension (e.g., moviename.year.mp4 and moviename.year.srt). I tried removing and re-adding my library, but that didn't resolve the issue.

    Temporary Workaround
After extensive troubleshooting, I discovered a workaround, yet far from a solution: if I add a subtitle by downloading a random subtitle with the help of the OpenSubtitle plugin, then all of a sudden Jellyfin suddenly detects the new as well as my original.srt file, and next time I go into the movie, it's available. However, I must then delete the newly downloaded.srt file.

    Jellyfin Server Configuration
My Jellyfin server runs in an LXC container within Proxmox, using Tteck's installation script (https://tteck.github.io/Proxmox/#jellyfi...server-lxc). The server has no HWA and uses a single SSD disk with p. All in all, there is no high usage load or anything like that. I am running the latest Jellyfin version, no weird plugins or modifications except some basic CSS.

I hope that someone can help me understand why this is happening and how to solve it, I would be really really grateful! 🩷

Can you provide your full jellyfin logs via pastebin? And share the output "ls -l" for the one of your movie directories?

Thank you for such swift reply!

    1. Should I just copy all of them or should I clean the logs and restart inbetween?
    2. My media folder seems to all be rwxr-xr-x (0755) owned by user: jellyfin from group: jellyfin

    Edit:
Wait I found some rw-r--r-- (0644) as well, what is the correct "one"?

We'd need to see your logs at this point. Please share them via pastebin.
