    Hi,

I currently have the following setup on my LAN:

    * NAS box running SMB for all media
    * Jellyfin server (docker) on Mini-S Pro (Linux Mint) - behind VPN
    * Chromecast connected to TV via HDMI
    * Android Jellyfin app for playback via casting to Chromecast

The Chromecast/Jellyfin app combo is entirely unreliable, losing playback control (critical in a busy house when needing to stop/pause/rewind/forward/switch subtitles on/off etc), crashing etc. so I'm looking for a new setup that just works, however it is critical for me to:

    * Control playback reliably via Android phone (iPhone support would be a very nice bonus), i.e. not via a physical remote - it is just way too clunky for searching and playback control.
    * The server responsible for the metadata must be runnable on Linux Mint (i.e. same as Jellyfin currently).

So I'm open to change any of these components/buy new hardware, even swap out Jellyfin if that's perhaps a better option.

In any case, no disrespect to Jellyfin devs, in fact the exact opposite, many thanks for the amazing free software - my current setup probably just isn't the main supported use case you can throw very limited dev capacity at.

    Thanks!

I have LibreElec on Raspberry pi 4, would recommend you the raspberry pi 5 and use a SSD (On pi 5 you can use a nvme ssd which i will recommend) and then add the jellyfin repo and install JellyCon

In the beginning i also used Chromecast, but had the same isues, not it just works - i have 3 Wi-Fi routers that communitcate over Wi-Fi and 2 Raspberry pi devices which are connect with lan cable for best experience.

You could give streamyfin on Android/ ios a try. I wouldn't expect casting to be seamless yet, for the best experience you'll want a suitable device connected to the tv such as Android TV/ Roku/ Raspberry Pi.
