Hello,
Reading through the help page here Apple Mac | Jellyfin - this is the status quo:
The link takes one through a discussion here: #10642 ([hwaccel] AV1 hardware decoding for Apple M3) – FFmpeg
This discussion ends with support being added via this commit: avcodec/videotoolbox: add AV1 hardware acceleration · FFmpeg/FFmpeg@f9c5c53
With the above in mind, what's stopping Jellyfin's implementation of FFmpeg from enabling AV1 hardware decoding on supported macs? (or, is this Work In Progress?) What would be needed to get this added? I'm not a developer but happy to help any way I can
PS. This project is amazing, and part of me signing up to the forum was to be able to send a huge THANK YOU to all developers and testers. Also, brought this thread here since it appears to be a more relevant place for it.

Quote:There is no hardware accelerated path for AV1 on macOS at the moment. Although the M3 series added AV1 decoding support, ffmpeg does not support it yet.
