Can Jellyfin run on same volume as video data in Raid5

Can jellyfin and media both be running on the same Raid5 volume? Setup would be via docker container. If that wouldn't work, my next option would be to only use 3 drives as Raid5 and lose a complete drive there leaving only a 2-drive of actual space to use; using drive 4 as a standalone volume and install media on that drive.

Other option considering using M.2 cache as a volume and installing jellyfin there and having media on Raid5 volume. My biggest concern there is that there is zero backup of installations there. Cache volume is history and loss of everything.

I could really use some help in this. I guess bottom line is whether jellyfin app and media streaming can both run on same volume?

Jellyfin should be installed on a SSD. Otherwise Jellyfin will be pretty sluggish due to the database being on a HDD. If the cache drive isn't proper permanent storage, that isn't a great option either.

Can you describe your setup? OS, virtualization, full hardware specs, storage situation, etc?

The nas, yet to be set up once everything arrives,
Synology DS423+ nas -- Celeron CPU
18 GB RAM
4x 16TB HDD
Cache..?

Would it be better to set up the cache memory as a volume? Then install jellyfin into there? Or better to have cache to fallback on whenever necessary?

I started using Jellyfin years back with the DS920+ which I believe shares the same CPU as the DS423+.

Provided you don't expect exceptional performance, Jellyfin works fine with it. It will have general slowness since Synology forces everything to be installed on the HDDs as well as having a lower-end CPU.

Basically, if something like a scrub happens on the HDDs, there will be less IOPS left for Jellyfin, so your experience will be slow and a bit miserable.
