Hello !
I can transcode and play perfectly files from x265 in web/or client, however, some x265 files won't work.

Files that works :

When the user on the web player click on "play", it transcode the x265 file and display it to the user.

Now a few informations :

TrueNAS-SCALE-23.10.0.1
i3-10100 CPU @ 3.60GHz
& a few HDD threw in there.

Both of this files can be directly played on my computer with VLC without any problems.

The JellyFin desktop app on windows have the option to play if possible directly the file so it'w working but it stutter a lot on the x265 AAC 7.1 one. Even the UI of the app lag during this moment.

That last log is meaningless. There is a check box in Dashboard > Logs to turn it off because it is so useless.

As far as I can tell, both files are effectively the same in terms of codecs and color depth, etc.

So I increased probesize & analyzeduration and it was still not working. Since it's say "unspecified size" for the PGS, is it a Jellyfin problem ? It's working on VLC.
Should I open a GitHub ticket ?
Can I tell Jellyfin to skip PGS so it's doesnt try to transcode ? (temporary solution).

- For the desktop app I can't force transcode on it even with uncheck "prefer fmp4 HLS".
It is always direct playing. I selected "Hardware Decoding : Decode Enabled" it doesn't transcode, even with "Decode Copy". Still stuttering, then selected "Decode Disabled", no transcode but no stuttering. So the clue with the desktop app is a different matter.

Those "Could not find codec" messages are harmless and common.

While the source audio is different, both are transcoded to AAC. The video that is working is transcoded to AAC 5.1 and the video that isn't working is being transcoded to AAC 7.1. I don't think that is a meaningful difference. On the client, try setting it to downmix everything to 5.1 or lower.

Ok on the JellyFin desktop app I used 5.1 & it's still working perfectly without transcode. Used the "Always force transcode" and it's transcoding successfully in H264 !

Now how to get to this result in Web Player ?

I think the web player downmixes to stereo, IIRC. Is that not the case? Except on MS Edge, HEVC will always be transcoded to H264 in other browsers.

I had these issues couple of times.

What I have done that usually worked:

1. Check your GPU capabilities

I believe you have a 10th gen Intel UHD Graphics 630. Links below

2. Make sure you enable only supported hardware encoding and decoding options in Jellyfin ( Menu / Dashboard / Playback / Enable hardware decoding for : )

Try with Allow encoding in HEVC format and Tone mapping on or off

Try with Allow encoding in HEVC format and Tone mapping on or off

So I tried everything and nothing change. I compared two files with mediaCompare, one working the other not the difference is the audio :

Not working is AAC LC 8 channels (7.1) the other was AC3 6 channels.

Then I found a not working files in jellyfin in HE AAC 7.1 with a 2 audio language in HE AAC 5.1.
Guess what, selecting the 5.1 audio the video was able to transcode !

I found in jellyfin "Playback" user settings, the first line : "Maximum allowed audio channels" in "auto". Changed it in 7.1 and the not working HE AAC 7.1 worked perfectly.

The error lays in jellyfin detection I believe ! But I'm not sure ^^

EDIT : I found out on the android app, when selecting 5.1 audio, it transcode but thzere is no image, just the photo from movieDB. It says transcoding, not image loss ect. And I have all fps, so it's not transcodingthe image in the webplayer in android phone ?
